[New Music] Mr. Miranda feat. Miss Rebecca - New Man (prod. 3kubebeats)
Man Mr. Miranda is a dope emcee and a honest man. So incredible when folks are willing to pour so much realness onto a track. Miss Rebecca comes through with the sweet assist on the chorus. Wishig the dude tons of success on his upcoming shows in Japan.

[New Music] Youngin Filo - So Fly Interlude (prod. Nithun P)
A dope cover caught the eye, and even sicker song is what was found. Filo crafts a smooth RnB track and by the time we reach the part where he's in the car with a shorty listening to the radio, listening to a sad girl sing.....woah!
Sep 06, 2016
[New Music] i-Dee - Surfer Sundays #13 (prod. Qux)
Here i-Dee kicks those real, honest, vulnerable raps. Qux laces him up with a smooth beat featuring an Erykah Badu sample on the chorus. The Surfer Sundays series has really allowed i-Dee to flex his versatility and here we appreciate that i-Dee throws his heart on his sleeve questioning why he raps and then remembering his art lives forever.

[New Album] Damon Logan - Melissa EP
You like your rap with a dose of dope lyrics? Check Damon Logan's second album where he flexes his skills on tracks like Swoosh 2. The rest on the album sounds influenced by modern soundscapes from trap to that off-beat rhyming. Then something special happens on Ocean(s) featuring Slator Blacc where a head nodder of a beat with a dope flute and funk guitar sample allows the rappers the perfect foundation to kick hot shit.

[New Mixtape] Jaca Zulu - Signals EP
Tucson's Jaca Zulu pieces together a diverse, dope soundscape on this EP. Whatever type of beat offered, Jaca is able to ride it while saying something. No wasted breath or bullshit on this album. Around Your Way sounds inspired by old school Missy Elliot. Standouts include Trail Mix and Million Milligrams.
Sep 01, 2016
[New Music] Emmitt Dupree feat. MastodonRare - Serious (prod. Glxdxn & Black Symph)
This songs builds into something very interesting. The beat builds on itself and by the time we reach the chorus, there are new sounds layered on top. Also Dope use of an excerpt from a movie (guess which one).

[New Video] MC Magic feat. Roca Dolla, J.Rob the Chief, & Jen Taber - Summertime in AZ
Yo we couldn't claim to cover all Arizona hip hop if we didn't write about MC Magic. Love him or hate him, his music, or what he's doing on the radio - you gotta respect him. He's an AZ rap legend who made a name for himself by hustling and working his ass off. I still remember seeing him at the swap meet selling mixtapes and making special rhymes for folks birthdays for $5. He made his name by paying his dues and definitely deserves all his success whether you like it or not.

[New Video] Futuristic - The Time Is Now
Futuristic's career has always been heavily assisted by his visuals. He's gone all in with the releases and is now up to 6 drops in the last few weeks. Is there a track off As Seen On The Internet that won't have a video? Check em all out at the Buff Nerds Youtube page but this is our favorite cause we love the message.
Aug 30, 2016
[New Music] Kidd Grim - Happens Like That (Prod. Nostalgia)
We really like what Kidd Grimm and Doni are cooking up. Is this a dope track? Not really. But it showcases something unique about those two - they're willing to push the envelope and try something new and we respect that. It doesn't always work but when it does, it's great.
Aug 30, 2016
[New Music] Daviphresh - All Year (prod. SpaceRangerVic)
There's a lot of trap coming out of AZ (and every where for that matter) and it's getting a little stale but All Year stays fresh. Dude gets props for the local reference - "hotter than the Sun Devil down at the UofA." Really enjoyable is when he's going ham on the track and then kicks some French so he pauses to question what he just said.
Aug 30, 2016
[New Music] Halee Cole x Tok Sik - Fall Up
Is it EDM? Is it RnB? Is it rap? I don't know and I'd prefer not to pigeonhole it cause it's super dope. That beat though! Tok Sik and Halee Cole sound very nice opposite each other. They have a modern day Ja Rule and Ashanti sound without the cheese.
Aug 30, 2016
[New Music] Dorian Colter - FourFiveSeconds
Dorian Colter has been a busy man lately releasing two tracks in the last 20 days or so. Here he's clearly inspired by Chance the Rapper and we benefit as a result. Very few rappers can handle that spazzy, high energy wildin' like Dorian Colter. It's an exciting song from an artist we've been excited about for a long time. Don't sleep on him.
Aug 30, 2016
[New Music] i-Dee - #SurferSundays #12 (prod. Cheeze)
He's Devin the Dude meets Nas but he's from the coastal, Drake but less emo, Ye with less than ego, and more Mac Millery than Bryson Tillery - and he's dope as fuck. Another entry in the Surfer Sundays series and as always it's sick. Check it out then check out The FloCast with i-dee on the podcast page.
Aug 30, 2016
[New Mixtape] Teek Hall - Day Old Donuts (The Roughs) A J Dilla Tribute
Teek drops a new mixtape featuring beats made by legendary producer J Dilla. Teek's gruff voice is a dope contrast to J's velvety beats. The standout is Same as You (The Red). On that track Teek kicks his observations and thoughts on the issues between police and the people.
Aug 24, 2016
[New Music] Eighty Two - This Is My Year
Rashenal and G-Owens drop a track indicating that all seasons they bring it. We first heard this track on West Coast Wednesday's and it didn't immediately stand out. After a few listens though, it definitely stuck in my head. That subtle guitar in the background reminds me of palm trees swaying and the chorus is a perfect summer time refrain to sing along with.
Aug 23, 2016
[New Album] ProducedbyTyler x FrescoToldYa - Bait
"This is that kicking back/and getting laxed/I let my light be shown" is a rhyme kicked on Be a Boss and it pretty much sums up this entire album. This is a before the turn-up, pre-club album. FrescoToldYa has a smooth flow and ProducedbyTyler laces him up perfectly. Standouts include Night Like This, Day Dreamin' and Be a Boss.
Aug 23, 2016
[New Music] Marley B feat. Black One - Hotter Than
Black One has said he's gonna take this track down soon. So like a Pokemon catch it before it's gone because it's a dope summer journey through the streets of Tucson that could be played anywhere. the beat is a head nodder and Marley B skips across the heat waves with ease.
Aug 23, 2016
[New Music] Baker x Gatz - Fuck Dem Bitches (prod. Baker)
I was just talking to someone recently about 3-6 Mafia and why that sound hasn't inspired more rappers. Well here it goes, Doddy Gatz and Baker replicate that sound as best they could and it's a southern bounce banger. Try not nodding your head to this one.
Aug 23, 2016
[New Album] DZE - A S T O L D B Y D Z E
DZE is an observer and a storyteller. ASTOLDBY is a journey with DZE through childhood perceptions, growing up, family affairs, and his various relationships. It's a thinking man's album full of emotion. The depth on the album is real. Each track has so many minute details in the lyrics it's obvious DZE has experienced what he is speaking on. Standouts include Kids, Trekell Park, Jules, and What a Day.
Aug 18, 2016
[New Music] Eloy Gabriel - SOLOMOBBIN (prod. attixiv)
Eloy's lonely isolation is our gain. On SOLOMOBBIN, he's crafted a track that is bouncy but that captures his being alone. It captures the essence he's going for without being depressing. He raps the following "
i think twice/as fast as the last grown man/a stampede/of thieves and wolves and wolves and sheep/
they came to please/they left for the meek."
Aug 18, 2016
[New Music] Ends - Beautiful: The Ness Kennedy Sessions
Ends is a confident dude and he spits those Greatest Ever type raps. Beautiful: The Ness Kennedy Sessions is chock full of braggadocious and game changer type rhymes. For example on I'm Here he spits, "I'm a lead the revolution through the music and then move it to a bigger impact/just follow the lead." It's on An Open Letter where shit really gets real as he kicks raps about thoughts on his family, mortality, and legacy.
Aug 18, 2016
[New Album] Lando Chill - For Mark, Your Son
Art as a form of self-medication is necessary for an artist at times, and I'm certain it's more often than not beneficial. From a listeners vantage point, the intimate view can be a beautiful thing to observe. Lando Chill uses this album as a means to come to grips with his Father's death and it is executed exactly as it needed to be. We're fortunate to sit in on the spellbinding single Coroner, where Lando's visit from the coroner makes him realize what his father's death means and question the realities of a music scne driven by social media culture. It's an album full of keen observations and introspection. Other standsout include Early in the Morning, Save Me, and I'm Awake.
Aug 18, 2016
[New Album] Jake Eff - Burgess (prod. SB Louie)
On Jake Eff's new album, he wants to present what life as a resident on Burgess is like. Thus the aptly named album has references to all the things happening on his block (imagine indulgent fun) and outside (trips to Benihana to eat teriyaki chicken and sip champagne to name one). Jake Eff doesn't overly complicate things with his rhymes, he kicks straightforward raps. SB Louie adds density to the record with his beats whether he's uilizing samples or synths. Standouts include F.N.O.B., My Level, No Other Place, and Yes I Do.
Aug 16, 2016
[New Music] Gerald Supreme feat. Leo Chizona - Herban Legends (prod. Tok Sik)
It's like we can't do a news page update without including a track from a Products of Infamy member. This crew is so large and stays consistently releasing music. This track from the Herban Legends is a stoney track.
Aug 16, 2016
[New Music] yung joey - 112 in Arizona
Yung joey's debut release has a few things going well for it. First of all, the cover is super dope. The Arizona sunset captured is beautiful. Second, he has a dope selection of producers with nawlidge nick, Jordan 1ne, and Kaylib all contributing. Finally, he's in a good lane as a rapper that works for him. He has a good voice and when his lyrics really start coming around like on Birds, you can begin to see the potential.
Aug 16, 2016
[New Music] Cruise & Loh & Uprhnd Izzy - Ea$y
We've been told since Cruise & Loh mentioned it on the Legal Trap interview that we'd be hearing a collab album with Uprhnd. Here is one track off the highly anticipated album and it doesn't disappoint. The tracks cool as fuck, chill vibe allows the rappers verses to shine. Loh kicks a memorable, quotable verse that is memoralized in Brownboi Maj's ukulele verse on the FloCast. Cruise and Izzy don't let Loh have all the fun as they both drop that fire as well.
Aug 16, 2016
[New Album] Adrian Veee - Truth Be Told
Don't sleep on Tucson people...there are a lot of rappers down there doing their thing. Tucson's Adrian Veee drops a 9-track record with features from EZGoin, Stev Martin, Self Explan, and Tommy Will. Truth Be Told is trappy in its beats and lyrical content. It's in Sluggish feat. EZGoin and 100 feat. Tommy Will that the album really shines. Everything Adrian Veee is trying to accomplish with this album is fully on display in those tracks.
Aug 16, 2016
[New Music] MastodonRare - The Revenant Intro
"A proper kid who comes from the the ghetto, but not the opposite," says MastodonRare on this intro to the album that will be released on September 30. On the strength of this and his other music, we eagerly await what's coming. The samples and the bars in this track are all dope.
Aug 16, 2016
[New Music] Doni feat. FanningSystems & Jordyn Larue - Mad Greens (prod. the Deli)
Often in AZ, people make the comment that everyone sounds the same. Doni should be considered the exception. He doesn't sound like anyone else. His sound and lyrics are all unique sounding here in AZ. It's fun and playful. Mad Greens has an acoustic guitar sample over a simple beat. Each rapper kicks a verse with Jordyn Larue kicking a cute rhyme that sounds like an outro to the song. Doni and FanningSystem both kick a rhyme that is all over the place content-wise but it sounds dope and has some quotable moments.
Aug 12, 2016
[New Music] Gibby the Kid feat. Eddie Wellz - Ahriman's Gift
A concept record that will be included on Gibbys mixtape dubbed Planet Nowhere. Eddie Wellz has that mad passionate flow that draws the listener in. He raps "although I have purpose/never been perfect/perfect ain't worth it/I'm still out here searching." Hardly if ever has a more true rhyme, pertinent for everyone, been kicked.
Aug 12, 2016
[New Music] Emmitt Dupree - Bri (prod. Space Ranger Vic)
Whoever Bri is, thank God for her. First, the vocal sample used by Space Ranger Vic is dope. Emmitt's emotive lyrics and flow jogging over the beat works perfectly with the beat. Then he gets on some Positive K back and forth with the chick that's pretty entertaining.
Aug 11, 2016
[New Music] COSMICKAMIKAZE - Synopsis
Different is good. Adventurous is interesting. This beat is on some hip hop Frank Zappa shit - it's all over the place and it works. I'm not sure if the congas were recorded live but they sound super nice. CKK's ebbs and flows with the beat in a way that's very satisfying.
Aug 11, 2016
[New Music] Salty Brasi - Lost Cause (prod. Charlie Mumbles)
Salty Brasi raps that he grew up in the underground and this track makes me believe him. He and Charlie Mumbles craft a record that sounds like it could've come out of the west coast scene that spawned Dilated Peoples, People Under the Stairs, and the Living Legends.
Aug 11, 2016
[New Music] UPRHNDCRIS feat. Stress - Wits (prod. CMB of UPRHND)
Wits starts out as a lonely piano that slows the heart rate. Once the bass hits, you almost feel like you're in the dark room with one candle burning shown on the cover. Stress then steps up to the mic like a dude with a purpose. Cris finishes things off. It's mentioned in the comments this is little teaser for Cris' mixtape - we'll look forward to seeing the finished product.
Aug 11, 2016
[New EP] fresco. - whtvrs on my mind
Products of Infamy is a quiet group making loud and consistent moves. It feels like theyre releasing new music every week. The latest, from member fresco., is a series of mellow boom bap bangers. Standouts include Pineapple Express produced by ffkk, which is an ode to the herbal remedies, and Old School where he kicks a dope line that goes "yo this beats apple bum is looking very bonita."
Aug 11, 2016
[New Music] Jaca Zulu - Before I rest (prod. 1$t Place)
Jaca Zulu asks a pertinent question in these dangerous times - "Will I live in peace, before I rest in it?" Slapping the listener with a political banger and thought provoking lyrics, Jaca doesn't mince words. He spits "judge, jury, execution way before the court dismissed" and the feeling the justice system is becoming a system of injustice smacks the listener in the face.
Aug 09, 2016
[New Music] Delly Everyday - Generation E
While I originally said just a rapper rapping over a dope beat. What I mean, is a dude becoming an emcee doing his thing. The beat is actually kind of chaotic with the sparsely placed cymbal hits but Delly is able to kick his flow with no problem. And he has a few positive messages mixed into his lyrics.
Aug 09, 2016
[New Music] Under Society - 7th Drive
Under Society is one of those artists we discovered as a result of the One Take contest. This is the song for their One Take video where the camera follows 6 different rappers. Seems like a pretty tough task but it's pulled off well. The track allows each rapper the opportunity to do their thing over a simple beat.
Aug 09, 2016
[New Music] Injury Reserve - Oh Shit!!!
Injury Reserve made a lot of noise in 2015 making a couple best of lists. They are liable to again with Oh Shit!! This is a dope record that features a sick piano sample and the crew bringing out some in yo face energetic rhymes. I was hooked immediately but when dude kicks that "this that raised by the internet without no dad rap" I was hanging on every word after.
Aug 09, 2016
[New Music] - Vast Moyie - Bezel wtih the PinkIce
Every so often I click a song expecting one thing and then I'm completely blown away. This is one of those instances. Vast has that easy going - make it sound easy flow like a Freddie Gibbs. His line about being Snoop, Jay-z, and Kanye at certain points in life is super dope. We look forward to more from dude.
Aug 09, 2016
[New Music] Stoney Deluxe & DJ Hotboy feat. Jake Eff, Benji, Uprhnd Leel, Davi Phresh, Louis - Make it Home
Posse cuts are dope. Take 4+ hungry rappers, throw them on one track and watch them try to out-rhyme each other. Stoney and DJ Hotboy put together a list of dudes who can rap a little bit and they don't disappoint lyrically.
Aug 09, 2016
[New Music] Fenzel Washington - Mr. Washington (prod. DJ Stude)
Skynet Music, Dj Stude's imprint, released this track from Fenzel Washington that was recorded in 2011. This music is timeless however. It works today or would've worked in the late 90's if it came out of the Mac Dre bay-funk era. His delivery is silly but not cheesy; not like Shock G's when he's doing Humpty Hump. Fenzel's actually saying quite a bit lyrically.
Aug 09, 2016
[New Music] Odd Squad Family - Die Once
Strong emotional states elicit beautiful art. It's terrible Odd Squad had to say goodbye to one of their members but the tribute paid on this track is beautiful. Also check Tried to Tell 'Em which was released a couple days laters. It's the last track they recorded with Frosty before his passing.
Aug 01, 2016
[Video] RoQy TyRaiD BLM!!
Compelled to speak up on the Black Lives Matter movement, RoQy TyRaiD lights up every square inch of this track with poetic insight. Re-educating us on the madness thats going on in our country. Cleverly reciting all the senseless brutality against humanity. Extremely high replay value.
Jul 31, 2016
[Video] Woodro - Living Lost
Looking inward and spitting what is seen outward is one way to get things off your chest. Woodro's doing that on Living Lost and it is accompanied by a visual that is a metaphor for his musical career. The lyrics are dense and on first listen a few things might be missed. Listen again and the deep honesty Woodro is spitting bleeds through.
Jul 31, 2016
[New Music] MegaRan - Stranger Things (Part One)
MegaRan was on his Facebook talking about how good he thought the show Stranger Things was. Fortunately for us, he liked it so much he felt inspired to record track samping the theme. It's a nice little soundpiece to go along with a cool show - check em both out.
Jul 31, 2016
[New Music] C.King feat. Tray Gutter & GQ - HI-Tech (prod. Bassfingerz)
Trap music is the sound for right now, it's everywhere. Who knows how long it will last but until then put the right snare rolls and deep bass together and heads nod. Throw some well-placed samples on top and it transforms into something familiar but different. Here Bassfingerz crafts a gem and the rappers get to do their thing.
Jul 31, 2016
[New Music] The Real Explicit feat. Hooly, Big-Flac, and Splendid - The Get Away
I don't know if Explict is Arizona's hardest working rapper but he's pretty damn close. He's been consistently releasing a track a week since we started working. The latest is a crime story about a dude needing to get out a sticky situation.

RIP Jarece "Frosty" Playeer
Arizona's Hip Hop community took a hit yesterday when Odd Squads Family member Frosty passed away. Please support his family by donating or sharing the link to donate below. Odd Squad shared the last song they made with him and you can check it at https://soundcloud.com/odd-squad-family/tried-to-tell-em
Jul 26, 2016
[New Music] Salty Brasi - Ugly Duckling (prod. Charlie Mumbles)
The self-described Ugly Duckling who grew from nothing, Salty Brasi of Truminati Music, grapples with this Charlie Mumbles beat. Real quick about Charlie - I imagine he sifts through old jazz records the way Donal Trump sifted through the DNC Wikileaks emails - like a man hellbent on finding the theoretical arc of the covenant. Charlie digs out these horn samples that are just incredible. Now Salty Brasi has a dope sense of humor and while his flow is serious, he's find time to drop a sly reference or pun.
Jul 26, 2016
[Album] Benjamin Fly - Chopped Soul
That cover could be misleading. Looking at it, you may think you're going to find yourself in a horrorcore album that talks about dismemberment and other types of vicious killing. That couldn't be farther from the truth. Benjamin Fly aka Benji aka Mr. OkayOkay is all about having a good time and calling out haters because he's living his life. He doesn't want people hating, just enjoying themselves. He doesn't want focus on haters, he's too busy getting money. Benji's smooth, chill flow sits nicely in Charlie Mumbles horn-heavy beats. Standouts include Focused and Warning, where Benji is at his best rapping in every space of the beat.
Jul 26, 2016
[Video] POINT NINE x RICKY TAYLOR x JOSEPH BILLS - Cuff The Police
Rap as a form of protest or as a way to narrate collective feelings on a subject is one of my favorite forms of rap. Point Nine unleashes his feelings on the police force. He captures the feeling of a great deal of people when he explains some of the recent murders and then raps, "it's hard not saying fuck the police when they that cold."
Jul 26, 2016
[Video] Benji - Warning
Benjamin Fly drops this video for Warning off his Chopped Soul album (which is crazy good, if you haven't checked it, go do that now). Here he's warning folks that if they're hating now, they'll be hating their entire life. Lesson learned - don't hate, you'll just waste time. Go support something, like this video.
Jul 21, 2016
[New Music] Cruise & Loh feat. Louis - Ride
Another smooth banger from the dynamic New Wave duo, this time with a little help from Valley Life member Louis. You can hear the progression in Cruise and Loh's flows on this track. They both step in and kick what sounds like a casual rap but its intricate in its delivery. And it never sounds like they never lose control of it.
Jul 21, 2016
[New Music] 4nthem The GoodKat x Syrin x X-Savior - Open Up |pt. 2| (prod. Tok Sik)
Yo I love what hip hop has been, what it is, and what it will be. It has so many faces. This song may not be for everyone, hell you could give me shit for liking it. My tastes are very diverse so I give everything a listen. Every so often though, I'm even blown away by what I like. This very mellow track that has no rap on it for the first minute is an ethereal soundscape that allows 4nthem to stress some realness.
Jul 20, 2016
[New Music] THEEDESTINATION - $ideway$
A song about all the things THEEDESTINATION has done to the V-J done in a way that only he can do it. Add him to the list of RnB dudes we fux with even though this is a rap zine. I wonder if he's really ever gone down on a girl while she's doing dishes, seems a little difficult but props to the man for the creativity.
Jul 19, 2016
[New Music] Cha Reck - Mario (prod. Zeke Nunez)
Video games and rap music go together like Mario and Luigi. This song is fresh and sounds like it's the lost rap level from Super Mario Brothers. The production from Zeke Nunez is tight and incorporates the right amount of video game samples without it reaching a level where it's hackey.
Jul 19, 2016
[New Music] AyeOne feat. Benji Blacc - Kobe. Ivo. Jordan. James
I gotta admit it, when I first heard this song on the Legal Trap mixtape, I wasn't a fan. I still might not be. But I do know this, the hook is mad infectious. I'll be chilling doing something completely unrelated to rap or ball and I'll start rapping the hook. Which means, it's a cool hook.
Jul 19, 2016
[Album] Siir Young - See You Soon EP
Siir Young drops a little 5 song EP. Hero and Death Note stand out as two tracks that allow Siir Young to flex his lyrical prowess. His flow has charisma and his bars are clever. You gotta listen close because though his lyrics seem simple, there's intricacy in his content.
Jul 18, 2016
[Album] Kaliq - New America
Public Enemy, the Coup, Immortal Technique, Lupe Fiasco, and Talib Kweli all made political records and political statements. Rap has for a long time voiced the statements that CNN and Fox News couldn't. Enter Kaliq who makes a lot of the same statements as his predecessors over some banging beats. Production on the is mostly handled by Heatroc, Priceless, and 21 the producer. As he shows on the trappy Understand and Mail, Kaliq is a dope rapper who can jump on various kinds of beats. He states in the description on Soundcloud that it took him 3 years to make the album. I'm glad he stuck with it because there's not a bad record on the album.
Jul 18, 2016
[Video] Grim Moses - Question the Pain
Grim Moses from the Society of Invisibles raps over a chilling, simple beat where he questions peoples' motives and value systems. "I ccould rap all day but none of you really listening/if it doesn't serve your bank than you're not really interested" is a dope bar that is true in so many walks of life.
Jul 17, 2016
[New Music] DZE - Trustworthy/Kids
DZE is an artist with the pen. He paints potraits with words. Trustworthy is a song that tells the story of a night out with his sister's boyfriend, who has no idea he's being tested and who eventually fails. The second song, Kids, has a beautiful distorted guitar loop that immediately made me feel like something special was coming. And I wasn't disappointed. The lyrics in this song are so poignant. Here, DZE is pondering the age old question of childhood vs adulthood, all while viewing the issues of adulthood, friends, family, and society through the lens of a man who is no longer a naive child. Because of these issues he longs for the freedom of childhood when raps: Member back when we were kids and they bearly could keep us sleep?/ Member back when we were kids and we'd chuckle dead at defeat?/Member back when we were kids the designated middle seat?/Member back when we were kids the only time when we were free? It's a dope song by a deep thinking, articulate artist.
Jul 17, 2016
[New Music] Cosmickamikaze - Who ya think?
Cosmickamikaze is a big fan of Doom. He raps over Who You Think I am and kicks a Doom like style of rap in flow and content. On that note, the song ends perfectly when he spits: Who ya think I am? Who ya think I am?/And I just tell em that "You could be DOOM!"
Jul 17, 2016
[Album] FriskOLAY - My Shxt
FriskOLAY reminds me of those rappers who don't sound link any one else like a Mac Dre or Danny Brown. Yeah he mostly utilizes trap beats like a lot of rappers right but his flow is all his own. And his flow works just as well when the vibe of the album switches to that smooth, g-funk perfected by artists from LA to the Bay.
Jul 16, 2016
[New Album] Ma$ter Mind & Mahkita - Cookin Off the Lap
As promised on the Flocast Ep. 1 - Ma$terMind and Mahkita drop their collaborative effort. It starts out real smooth on SomeMoney and stays on a lounging, cool-out tip pretty much throughout. There's 5 tracks with both rappers and two solo records.
Jul 11, 2016
[New Music] UPRHNDCRS feat. Zaytwentyfo - Mercy
In our article, entitled Connecting Circles, we mentioned younger groups making a lot of noise. We forgot to mention UPRHND. It is unfotuntate because we really like the music they are making and they're probably one of the first groups we enountered in our resarch. This record is a release from UPRHNDCRIS and it's pretty good. But then again, everything about UPRHND is dope.
Jul 10, 2016
[New Music] I-Dee feat. Salty Brasi - #SurferSunday #6
i-Dee begins this song by pondering the previous month and stating that it was ehhh. If he's talking about the month that he released four Surfer Sundays, then I absolutely have to disagree. These are must listen to records. I look forward to each week and this week's does not disappoint.
Jul 07, 2016
[New Music] brownboi maj - $he (prod. by Ultraaa)
We mostly focus on hip hop. I say mostly because I keep sneaking in Brownboi Maj and Daniel Jordan tracks in. And these dudes make RnB, the Weeknd type records. And they're dope. The production is always on point. $he is no exception. The 808 hits so clean and mellow and Maj sits in the driver's seat slowly cruising to Ultraaa's beat.
Jul 08, 2016
[New Music] JRod the Problem feat. Lazie Locz - Guardian Angel
These dudes have a message for their kids that spares no expense towards baby mamas. I appreciate the chorus where Jrod spits "we're going to battle where nobody wins." Honest opening to a track where he obviously has a lot to get off his mind, but that he admits it's a difficult situation.
Jul 08, 2016
[Album] brownboi maj x THEEDESTINATION - Siren
As promised by their album release party, brownboi maj and THEEDESTINATION release their collaborative effort. My boy Joe use to drive a truck for work with Will R. He would throw on RnB mixes. Will thought it was a little weird that two dudes would listen to RnB in a car together while at work. I'm gonna send this EP to Joe and make sure he bumps it no matter who he's in the car with. This is some dope shit that should be bumped everywhere, no matter who's in the car.

[New Music] KiddGrimm - MightMicrophonePowerRhymer (prod. Mt. Marcy)
This song has schizophrenia cause it's all over the place. But its dope and shows MF Doom's influence on the Kidd. He's able to find his flow on all three beats. If this is him and the crew fucking around around midnight, I can't wait to hear when they get serious.

[New Music] Cam - Undefeated (prod. Stereotistik)
Chunkyboy's Cam feels like he and the 1972 Miami Dolphins have something in common. Namely that it's their season and neither have lost. This trap beat bounces and sways. Cam never lets up and relentlessly fills space with his proclamations.

[New Music] Emmitt Dupree - Mufasa
Different is good, but sounding different is dangerous. If it works, then the sound sticks in people's minds. If it doesn't, then it just sticks out like a sore thumb. Mufasa is different - the hook sounds like a hook on a trap beat and he repeats the title over and over. But the beat is anything but another trap beat. It has simmilar elements but the 808s are hitting very subtlely. Layers on top is a piano loop, a loop of some strings, a chorus of children, and a singular horn. It's a rich tapestry of sound. And don't get it twisted, this song is not just a dope beat. Emmitt Dupree gots lyrics. He makes clear he's cut from a different cloth as he raps "Everybody got the beast but their animal different/everybody trying to eat but I'm Hannibalistic."

[New Music] MastodonRare feat. Turo Sivirian - Down Like That
"If you can dream it, don't let em tell you can't achieve it" and "writing at bus stops" is the lyrics of someone who's only going to get better. On this latest track, MastodonRare shows he's gaining consistency and only improving at his craft.

[New Music] Dead DSMD feat. Charles Hider - Finest (prod. ITZSPVCEMAN)
Smoothness personified on this track from Mill City's Dead DSMD with the assist from Charles Hider. It's a subtle trap beat that guides the listener through a cloudy walkway as the rappers detail that they only fuck with the finest.

[Album] Highlight the Show - Concious Man of the Year
If you haven't heard Products of Infamy, please take a look. This deep group has tracks upon tracks upon tracks. They pump out content with the same consistency that Donald Trump pumps out bullshit. This latest offering, from member Highlight the Show, begins with a song that samples Lonnie Liston Smith's Garden of Peace, which is the same sample used in Jay Z's Dead Presidents. Here the sample and beat are both at a slower temple allowing the listener to ease into the album. Highlight is definitely on a concious and social tip. His raps range from introspection to observations of his surroundings to thoughts on the current presidential election. Most of the production is handled by crewmember Tok Sik, who crafts soundpieces that work well for each member.

[Album] JodieB - Ray
Comes out the gate smooth like front porch sippin' after a long day. Reminds me of Freddie Gibbs/Madlibs - Pinata how it's a groovy and smooth soundtrack to a slow cruising afternoon. The first track, aptly titled Ride, and Highed up exemplify this albums mood and theme.

[New Music] i-Dee - Surfer Sundays #4 (prod. Mr. UU)
What the. . ... fuuuuck.... the I dash D double E don't fuck around. Dude takes this Mr. UU beat and simply flows like water out of a faucet. Did his parents playing Arrested Development lead him to being this good or was he listening to De La Soul(??), as he shouts out Stakes is High at one point. I don't know these answers, but I do know I'm listening for anything i-Dee drops from here on out.

[New Music] Yo$h - Adidas (prod. Bliss)
Yo$h is a man of various tastes. He wants everything from a Lamborgini to steak and fettucine. His food tastes don't stop there as he likes his chicken dipped in truffle oil with a side of fries. The record's title gets worked into the song as Yo$h explains his chick doesn't fuck with "jumpmen" that's why she fucks with him.

[New Music] MA$TER MIND - Clones (prod. 9th Wonder)
The second MA$TER MIND track produced by 9th Wonder and he executes again beautifully. 9th Wonder beats are a work of art. It takes the right flow and here dude shows he knows what he's doing. He's going after the rap game in this one, making it known that he thinks everyone sounds the same.

[New Music] Daniel Jordan - Impatient
Daniel Jordan doesn't skirt around the fact that he's after that sound perfected by the Weeknd and Drake (when he's up at 3am pondering love, life, and loss). Here the crooner wants his chick to understand he's not wanting things to move slow, he wants her now. Don't hesitate or be patient on this one, dude is making good music and you should check it out now, like right now.

[New Music] Point Nine - Deaf 2 Da World
There was this funny video on Facebook making the rounds of these two dads rapping about parenthood. It was cheesy but true. Here is a song featuring a real rapper spitting dope lyrics and again, the reality of parenthood are present. The only other difference is the amount of plays. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

[New Album] Doni - Choking Spirits
Music is cyclical. And there's been a few artists bringing back the late 90s/early 2000s rap sound of Rawkus, MF Doom, and early Kanye. It's evident early on that Doni is influenced by these sounds especially Doom, when he raps over a beat produced by the mask artist and drops a line bout rhymes for dimes. Fun stuff happening here.

[New Album] to_ne - Life is Beautiful
Introspection and talking about vulnerabiities can be a dangerous thing in rap. In art though, it's a sigh of relief, a burden lifted off of shoulders, or a moment of living - it's a beatiful thing. On to_ne's Soundcloud page he requests listeners enjoy the work of art he created - an honest request from a rapper spitting honest raps. Dude is at a good place in life. On Feel Good he tells haters as much. And even though on Waves he discusses the more difficult times, he spits all he's learned and gained from the adversity. Musically many may hear how raw the beats and rapping are but it's an honest piece of work that will see to_ne doing incredibly dope things when he can put both together.

[New Music] DZE - Trekell Park (prod. Attixa)
DZE's Trekell Park is a mellow track - like sitting in the front yard on a Sunday, which has DZE reminiscing about family, old stomping grounds like the tracks name sake in Eloy, and memories of positive influences that sway young dudes away from the street life.

[New Music] MA$TER MIND - Proof (prod. 9th Wonder)
MA$TER MIND doesn't fuck around on this track. No chorus necessary, he jumps all over this beautiful sample put together by legend 9th Wonder (Little Brother, Justus League). MA$TER MIND runs out the gate saying "the struggle turned a ***** into a monster" and never lets up.

[New Music] Mr. Miranda Ft. M.P.R.E.S.S - We Don't Care
Back at it again with a summer sway, catchy gentleman type flow. Mr. Miranda's vocals melt on to this track like butter on breakfast toast. A long with a Feature from M.P.R.E.S.S, We Don't Care, take a thick soulful turn into a memorable single. This is the second single off the "Dave's World' Mixtape.

[New Music] MastodonRare - The Fall
Rap has always been about lyrics. But lets not kid ourselves and act like beats don't exist as more than just a supporting actor. For a long time though, rappers have felt the need to make sure their voice and their lyrics fill every space on a track - with lyrics, adlibs, and just talking. Here, MastodonRare does something I wish more rappers did - just let the beat breathe and exist. It's a dope, mellow beat that's bass kicks like a slow heart beat. Instead of dropping a chorus, after his first verse he just lets the beat go. The song is definitely better for it but not because of anything wrong with MastodonRare's lyrics, just because he lets the beat take center stage and take a bow.

[New Music] TheeDestination - Musa EP
On Musa, TheeDestination's latest EP plays like a Weeknd tape - it has that turndown, chill vibe for the hours after the club has shut down. Dude puts his heart on his sleeve and croons about some girl troubles. On Text Me When You Get Home, his girl has been a little unfaithful and as the song title says, he just wants to know when she's home so he can go on with his life. In moments like this, youthful love and heartbreak is an unpleasant kick to the face that TheeDestination makes the listener feel. This continues on Meant 2 Be and It's Not You, It's Me where being broken up with is confusing and something to forget. The beats range from super chill to mellow trap - all in all allowing the real emotion of TheeDestination's tracks, his lyrics, take center stage.

[New Music] Uprhnd Leel - Zombie (prod. Benihana Boi)
Upperhand's Leel glides over a dark trap beat from Benihana Boi. A lighter sparks the substances laden raps that eases the listener into the stoney state Leel highlights. Lines like "in the valley we active, no practice/sipping cactus cooler/until we active losers" metaphorically invokes something other than the surgary drink. This song begs the question - how come Zombies, as popular as they've been, haven't been used as the chorus in a trap song? It just works so well.

[New Music] Dirty Dan - Hunnids feat. Eddie Ray
Capitalism, consumerism, and as Dirty Dan puts it - "just fuckin' up some hunnids" - is alive and well on this track. The track slaps and bounces and does all kinds of things well. As the beat fades away slowly at the end of verses, it comes crashing back like a wave on the shore when the chorus drops. This is definitely a strip club, regular club, bumping loud with the windows down track cause of how hard it goes.

[New Music] Hexs and Mr. Miranda - Raw
One thing that's cool about Mr. Miranda, besides a dope flow, is you can always expect a childhood reference or two. Here he mentions the Goonies One-Eyed Willie's treasure and the crash test dummies. Which Mr. Miranda is not, as he smoothly spits "all I wanna do is make some change/and at the same time make some change" which is a difficult rhyme to spit given the vast chasm that exists between those two concepts at time, and he does it without sounding self-righteous or pretentious. That's what you get with Mr. Miranda - honest, self-aware raps that sound dope as fuck over smooth beats like the one here.

[Video] Brownboi Maj - Broke Boi
Brownboi Maj does what few artists would be willing to do...make a song about being broke and a video that shows Maj taking his chick out on date with less than $5 - money which he had to borrow from the homies. In a situation paying homage to Half Baked, Maj reallocates funds literally being slept on by a dude who probably worked the side of a road to earn. In the end though it's all worth it for Maj.

[New Music] Ronin - Snow feat. Daniel Jordan
Snow starts out with Ronin spitting "we just affecting the way that the story is told" which is true and could be what all Arizona rappers are shouting right now. The story about Arizona music is changing....daily it's getting better and better. Ronin and Daniel Jordan lend the assist on Snow crooning over a rolling trap beat. Daniel Jordan spits at one point that his plane is lifitng and he aint' alone. Again true because if that's a metaphor for AZ rap, a lotta planes are lifting up with Daniel Jordan. It's cold artists like these two making June sound doper.

[New Music] FriskOLAY - Daygo Dayz EP
FriskOLAY's flow have these intentional inflections of his voice that sound unique. It's kind of fun and cool when he does it. This short four song EP showcases FriskOLAY many different sounds. Model Music sounds like a Miami bass song that would definitely get models in South Beach moving on a dance floor. Miiiiike Jones is featured on Arizona Marijuana, which has some southern bounce to it. Swervin' is trappy while real love. has an early 2000's sound.

[Video] Cruise - Reefer Madness
Cruise dropped a video from the Cruise and Loh album Daze in Life. The song Reefer Madness features a mellow trumpet that sounds like it comes from Miles Davis Kind of Blue album and that could exist as theme music in an episode of Mad Men. Upperhand comes in at the end to assist the song in fading out. Cameralord directed the video. It matches the chill, high beat and Cruise's smooth flow in style and substance.

Mayor Stanton Names Nov. 19 Hip Hop Day
File this away under super dope! Respect the Underground hustled its way onto Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton's radar. The Mayor declared the date of the 3rd annual Arizona Hip Hop Festival to be Hip Hop Day in Arizona. Getting props from the Mayor is one thing - gaining enough traction that Hip Hop gets its own day in Phoenix is a testament to the work Respect the Underground has put in. The festival is scheduled to once again be held at Comerica Theatre on November 19. There has even been rumor that the festival will have a stage on Washington Ave, which would be shut down. Considering the past success and current moves being made, we believe the festival will continue to be a monumental occasion for Hip Hop in Arizona.
